FG needs N360bn to deliver on water to Nigerians before 2015

Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe, yesterday, announced that her ministry would require N360 billion between now and 2015 to deliver water to Nigerians.

Ochekpe spoke during her appearance before the leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by its national chairman, Bamanga Tukur. She went to brief the party on how the ministry was meeting the agenda of the party.

She told the party that as part of efforts to improve water supply for human and agricultural needs of the country, over 20 dams were at the height of completion and would soon be commissioned.

Ochekpe, who was the second minister to appear before the party after Works Minister, Mike Onulememen, listed some of the dams to be located in Katsina, Imo, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom and Sokoto.

She said, “From what is on ground and the level of resources and commitment committed to the development of water resources, the government of President Goodluck Jonathan is on course to be returned to power in 2015”.
