A former governor of Anambra, Chief Chukwuemake Ezeife, on Tuesday urged the newly sworn-in President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to focus on rapid economic development of the country.

Ezeife said the drive would raise respect and dignity of the African people.
“The Buhari administration should be committed to rapid major economic development of Nigeria, that way, the administration will raise the respect and dignity of black and African people.”

“Nigeria owes all black people a duty, the duty to wipe off the shame of slavery from all blacks on earth and we can only succeed with massive economic development,” he said.

The former governor noted one area in which the new administration should quickly revive and develop for higher internally generated revenue was the culture and tourism sector.

According to Ezeife, the sector has the potential to make the country one of the greatest countries in the world, if properly harnessed.

“The sector is one that can sustain a country. We have all kind of sites all over Nigeria that can bring lots of foreign currency to the country.”

“We need to study what other countries have done to succeed, what they did in tourism and face it.”

“The tourism sector is one sector that can generate lots of jobs and boost the economics of the country,” the former governor said.

Ezeife said the first step the administration should take to develop the culture and tourism sector was to curb insecurity and develop tourism sites.

He said tourism has a way of affecting other sectors of the economic, hence, the need for government to pay adequate attention to its development.
