Edo State government on Wednesday said it recovered about N500 million that was allegedly stolen by civil servants through inflation of vouchers in the state.

The state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, disclosed during the May Day celebration that the money was discovered last week.

Oshiomhole, who reacted to the demands of the state leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the governor’s appointment of non civil service career officers as permanent secretaries, said government was committed to reforming civil service in the state.

According to him, some civil servants gave him inflated vouchers and the state was able to save N500 million on a contract after thorough investigation.
