Bayelsa State government said it is seeking financial grant of about N4.0 billion from the Federal Government in the area of provision of potable water for the people.

The state commissioner for water resources, Dein Benadoumene, made the disclosure in Yenagoa while briefing newsmen on the 2013 World Water Day, saying the assistance was specifically in the area of water reticulation.

Benadoumene said the major problem was the reticulation of the communities lying between Edepie and Igbogene on the border with neighbouring Rivers State which were yet to benefit from public water supply.

“We have appealed for financial grant from the Federal Government between three and four billion naira to do reticulation especially from Edepie to Igbogene”, he stated.

Benadoumene also called for the support of residents in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, International Year of Water Cooperation, as the essence of the celebration ought to cut across all ministries, agencies and other relevant corporations.

He stated that while the state government was determined to provide water for the growing populace, some activities of residents and contractors on road projects were in the opposite direction of the government.
