Akwa Ibom government has announced plans to construct a 23-kilometre dual carriage way between Eket and Etinan to link part of the East-West Road being constructed by the Federal Government.

Governor Godswill Akpabio, who made the announcement in Uyo, the state capital, said work might likely begin in May this year.

Akpabio, who stated this when 14 participants from the public and private sectors of the 2013 Senior Executive Course No.35 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, led by Olu Obafemi visited him in Uyo, explained that construction of the road was to open the state for more development.

“The transformation agenda of Akwa Ibom State presents a reliable roadmap to the transformation of Nigeria. Already, we would soon commence the dualisation of Eket-Etinan Road from May this year to link to East-West Road.

“Akwa Ibom House of Assembly is assisting us in getting more approvals for expenditure. In six years, we have managed to maintain a ratio of 80 percent for capital expenditure and 20 percent for recurrent expenditure. The budgetary process alone is transformation in itself”, he remarked.
