The Akwa Ibom government says it has spent N108 billion on the construction of federal projects such as roads, schools and prison facilities between 2007 and this year.

It lamented that 10 percent of the amount which had been approved has yet to be refunded to the state government.

According to Governor Godswill Akpabio, who made this known in Uyo, the state capital, the state government had completed work on a brand new secondary school with boarding facilities and handed it over to Nigeria Police Force without any refund.

Akpabio, who spoke while receiving the chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility and Efficiency Committee of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Ignatius Amodu, in his office in Uyo, also decried the non-payment of ecological funds to the state government.

“In Akwa Ibom State we have not benefited from the special intervention funds and I believe such funds are utilised and it should not be so. We have taken up projects, even the federal projects on our own. Take for example, the University of Uyo, which is a federal school, had no internal roads for 35 years.”
