Steel workers commend FG for reviving Ajaokuta Steel Company

 The workers in Ajaokuta Steel Company Ltd. on Monday, commended the Federal Government for its efforts at reviving the industry.

Mr Otori Salihu, the National President of Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ISSSAN), gave the commendation at the annual leadership workshop of the association in Lokoja.

He said the recent delivery of consignment of billets to the company in preparation for resumption of production was a good development for the country and workers in the sector.

He called on all stakeholders in the steel industry, including workers, to support government efforts towards reviving the sector.

Salihu also called for a policy that would stimulate the use of local content in the sector as a means of creating jobs and sustaining steel development in the country.

He, nonetheless, called for effective implementation of good policy on the sector, insisting that the progress of the nation’s steel sector had been dragging due to failure in policy implementation.

He commended the workers of the company for their dedication to duty in spite of the numerous challenges confronting the company in the past.

He said the workshop was aimed at preparing the workers ahead of resumption of production soon.

The theme of the workshop was: “Strategic Synergy for the Development of National Metal and Steel Sector in Nigeria.’’
