Former Governor Segun Osoba led group has finally dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State for the resuscitated Social Democratic Party (SDP), unveiling Akin Odunsi, a serving senator, as its governorship candidate.
The emergence of ‎Kamarudeen Akin Odunsi, former APC member and serving senator as governorship candidate of SDP at a mega rally held at Ake Palace in Abeokuta on Wednesday. According to political pundits, this has now made the governorship race in the state a three-horse race, having Ibikunle Amosun in APC; Gboyega Nasir Isiaka in PDP and the new entrant, Akin Odunsi in SDP.
Speaking at the mega rally, Segun Osoba, former governor and the leader of the splinter APC group now in SDP‎, lamented the attitude of the government of Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his APC group. The SDP was out to liberate people of the state and share the democracy benefits equally as well as initiating a set of meaningful programmes in all the nooks and crannies of the state, he said.
Osoba said, “You people of Ogun State told me you want a governor who will share‎ the benefits of democracy equally among the different parts of Ogun ‎State and not a governor of friends and families. You said you want a governor who is humble, mature and noble; one who will respect elders, one who knows the guidelines of the party and will listen to the party, one who will appreciate those who took their stand to vote at the polls.”
While appealing to the members of SDP to get their permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) and to use their votes wisely in the next general elections, the former governor said that the choice of ‎Akin Odunsi as SDP governorship candidate was in accordance with people’s request.
