Olajide Adediran (popularly known as Jandor), the 2023 governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has resigned from the party.
In a media briefing in his campaign office in Ikeja on Monday, Jandor said he could not realise his political ambition in the PDP, while lamenting the current crisis in the party.
He did not disclose the party he would be moving to, but promised to announce soon.
Speaking further, the former governorship said despite complains by party members, the PDP failed to take action against several chieftains who sabotage the party’s candidates chances in the 2023 general election in Lagos State by working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the situation would not change in 2027.
Jandor noted that the PDP had failed to uphold internal discipline among its members, saying that the decision to resign from the PDP was taken after consultation with his support groups in the 20 local government in Lagos State.
According to Jandor, “We have dedicated ourselves to the ideals of democracy, good governance and the pursuit  of a better Lagos Lagos.
“However, it has become evident that the leadership of the People’s both at state and national levels has failed to uphold these principles.
“The persistent anti-party activities, internal sabotage, and lack of  discipline within the party have severely undermined our collective efforts and made it impossible for genuine progress to be achieved”.
The former governorship candidate pointed out that his decision to resign from the PDP was taken after extensive consultation with his supporters across Lagos, which was necessary to save their political future.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultation with my family, political associates and supporters, we have made the difficult decision to resign from the People’s Democratic Party”, he added.
