Traditional Nigerian music has had profound impact on my style, lyrical content – LizMo

When you think of a gospel artiste with a voice that can calm frayed nerves and lyrics that uplift the soul, then look in the direction of Olufa Elizabeth Omotolani, know as LizMo a rising star in the Nigerian gospel music industry.

From a young age, LizMo showed an unwavering passion for music, which led her on a remarkable journey as a gospel music minister, songwriter, and music instructor.

Shedding light on how her Nigerian background influences her music, LizMo said:”Our traditional Nigerian music holds immense cultural significance and has had a profound impact on my style and lyrical content. I am inspired to write songs with a fascinating blend of traditional and modern musical styles and the fusion of these two forms has created a unique sound that mesmerizes listeners both within and outside the country”.

On the impact she sees her music making, the soulful singer said :”Music for me is an expression of how I feel, whether happy or sad. Music helps us immeasurably during this time. It’s an understanding force, and there’s something about its wordlessness which helps us to see our reflection in its mirror without our having to explain anything. I am inspired to write songs my listeners can connect with, The music matches their mood, or it can help them change it too as they listen to my music and the major aim is for them to be and blessed as they listen to my songs”.

Born into a family deeply rooted in music, LizMo’s early exposure to music came as a choir member. She officially embarked on her musical career in 2007, where she began her formal musical education at the prestigious Muson School of Music. In 2010, she achieved the remarkable feat of obtaining both Muson School of Music and ABRSM certificates with a Grade 5 certification.

LizMo’s dedication and talent were quickly recognized, earning her a scholarship to pursue a diploma program in voice at the Muson School of Music, which she successfully completed in 2012. She continued her educational journey, enrolling at the University of Lagos in 2016, where she pursued her academic studies and graduated in 2019.

LizMo who has shared her gifts and ministered in various churches, not only in Lagos but also beyond its borders is a proud daughter of Pastor Paul Adeniyi, The Lead Pastor of The Evidence Church, and serves as a singing minister.
Her devotion to spreading the message of faith through music led to her debut EP, ‘Gratitude,’ released in May 2022.

Highlighting what her vision is as a gospel artiste,she said:”I aspire to be a global brand by making creative music and filled with the spirit of God in order to keep being a blessing to my audience both home and abroad”.
