The magic of apple cider vinegar

The magic of apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar, a humble pantry staple, made from fermented apple juice, is more than just a salad dressing ingredient.

According to healthline.com, research suggests that ACV may have beneficial health properties, including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects.

“Acetic acid is vinegar’s primary active compound, giving it its strong sour smell and flavour. Researchers believe this acid is responsible for apple cider vinegar’s health benefits. Cider vinegars contain about 5 percent”

The health site further explains that “Organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar also contains a substance called mother, which consists of strands of proteins, enzymes, and friendly bacteria that give the product a murky appearance.”

While ACV health benefits such as; blood sugar regulation, weight loss, heart health booster, skin/health care and relief from indigestion. Consumption of it should be managed appropriately to avoid side effects.

“Consuming 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 milliliters) of apple cider vinegar with water before or after meals may be advantageous,” according to Healthline.

Apple cider vinegar is often recommended for controlling blood sugar levels naturally, especially for those with insulin resistance. When you have it before a high-carbohydrate meal, it slows down how fast your stomach empties, which prevents big jumps in blood sugar levels.

It also makes your body more sensitive to insulin, helping it move glucose from the blood into cells, lowering blood sugar. Surprisingly, you only need a little bit of apple cider vinegar to get these benefits.

Generally, having four teaspoons, or 20 ml, of ACV before meals has been proven to significantly lower blood sugar levels after eating. Mix it with a few ounces of water and have it just before a high-carb meal.

However, ACV does not do much to lower blood sugar when taken before a low-carb or high-fiber meal.

In regards to women’s health, ACV is researched to be of immense benefit, especially with Polycstic ovarian syndrome. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition linked to irregular periods, high androgen hormone levels, ovarian cysts, and insulin resistance.

According to Healthline “One older 3-month study found that females with PCOS who drank 1 tbsp. (15 mL) of apple cider vinegar with about 7 oz. (100 mL) of water immediately after dinner had improved hormone levels and experienced more regular periods.”

Though more research is needed to be sure, taking 1 tbsp. (15 mL) daily seems to help with PCOS symptoms.

Beyond internal health, ACV offers benefits for skin and hair care. Its antibacterial properties can help treat acne and improve skin health, while its acidic nature helps balance the skin’s pH levels.

For hair, a diluted ACV rinse can add shine, detangle, and combat dandruff by restoring the scalp’s natural acidity.

This vinegar is more than a kitchen staple; it is a versatile elixir with a wide range of health benefits. From aiding digestion and managing blood sugar to boosting heart health and enhancing skin and hair, ACV proves its worth as a natural remedy.

As always, moderation is key, and it is best to consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet.
