ALICE (2022)
“Alice” is a 2022 American movie added to Netflix towards the end of the year. After noticing it on my watch list, I finally made time during the festive season to watch it. The film takes us down memory lane, exploring the pre-and post-civil rights era in the American South.
Alice was born into slavery and grew up serving her white owners. She worked tirelessly, unaware of the world beyond the plantation. This oppression lasted for decades with no apparent hope of escape.
After losing her husband, Alice found the courage to flee, determined to secure her freedom, even at the risk of her life. Her ultimate goal was to return and liberate her people. The movie keeps you on edge as you wonder if she succeeds in her mission.
This 100-minute thriller/drama, directed by Krystin Ver Linden, stars Keke Palmer, Common, and Jonny Lee Miller. It’s a gripping story of resilience and justice worth watching.
KNIGHT & DAY (2010)
I stumbled upon this movie on Netflix. Even though it’s an older film, it was trending on the Top 10 list, which means a lot of people were watching it. The movie stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as the lead actors, and it was refreshing to see their younger selves. The story follows June Havens, a simple young woman who needed to travel to another city to attend her sister’s wedding.
At the airport, she was denied boarding, leaving her angry, upset, and desperate. In a twist of fate, she crossed paths with a charming stranger and decided to join his flight. Little did she know that this decision would turn her life upside down, dragging her into an unpredictable whirlwind of chaos and adventure. If only she had known better, she might have just gone home!
To find out what happens and whether she makes it to her sister’s wedding, you’ll need to watch the movie yourself. This 109 minute action-comedy, directed by James Mangold, also features Paul Dano, Peter Sarsgaard, and Viola Davis. It’s an entertaining watch that will keep you hooked from start to finish!
MADNESS (2024)
If you follow me closely, you’ll know I’m not a huge fan of series, as I struggle with focus. But when I get a nudge or strong recommendation, I give it a try. That’s exactly what happened here. Having seen this series recommended for weeks, I finally decided to give it a shot, and it wasn’t bad at all.
Muncie Daniels, a young and vibrant man, was a familiar face on TV. After an intense interview with a prominent female human rights activist, he decided to take a break to recharge. He retreated to a quiet Country Cottage, far away from the noise of the city.
Upon arriving, he met his new neighbour, who was warm, friendly, and chatty. A few days later, while out on a walk, Muncie stumbled upon the lifeless body of one of his neighbours. Shocked and confused, he froze, unsure of what to do. Suddenly, two masked men appeared and began chasing him.
Muncie ran for hours, eventually making it to the local police station the next day. The police accompanied him back to the scene, but to his dismay, no body was found. Nothing he said seemed to add up, and he quickly became the prime suspect.
The twists and turns of the series take you deep into Muncie’s efforts to clear his name and unravel the mystery. You’ll watch as he faces accusation after accusation and how every element of the situation was stacked against him.
This action conspiracy thriller limited series created by Stephen Belber has 8 episodes, with each episode averaging 50 minutes, features a stellar cast, including Colman Domingo as Muncie Daniels, Marsha Stephanie Blake as Elena Daniels, John Ortiz as Franco Quinones, Tamsin Topolski as Lucie Snipes,Thaddeus J. Mixson as Demetrius and Gabrielle Graham as Kallie.
