In its quest to equip Nigerian teachers with essential pedagogical and leadership skill to drive positive change in the country’s educational landscape, Teach For Nigeria (TFN) has inducted over 598 educators into its fellowship programme.
In the 2024 cohort held recently, TFN inducted 505 young professionals and 93 school leaders into its eighth and fourth cohorts of fellows and school leaders, respectively.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, Ayodele Olajiga, chief executive officer of Teach For Nigeria, charged the fellows and school leaders to make every day of their two-year commitment count, emphasising the need for collaboration.
“Ask the cohort whenever you are at a crossroad, and harness your collective strength to drive social change in your respective placement schools and communities,” he said.
Adeola Adefemi, a multiple award-winning teacher and principal education officer in Lagos State, who delivered the keynote address urged the fellows and school leaders to embrace a culture of selflessness.
“I didn’t come into this profession for money. When I was deployed to a school in Ile Epo, Lagos, I knew I had to stay in the community and make a change,” she said.
Adefemi encouraged the fellows and school leaders to strive for excellence in everything they do, becoming the teachers every child in Nigeria needs.
The 2024 cohort, themed; “Teach Today. Shape Tomorrow. Your Leadership Matters Now”, was aimed at equipping teachers with essential pedagogical and leadership skill to drive positive change in Nigeria’s educational landscape.
Over the next two years, the 2024 fellows will serve as full-time teachers in underserved communities in Lagos and Ogun States, receiving ongoing support from Teach For Nigeria and its partner organisations.
As leaders, they will design and implement Be-The-Change (BTC) projects to address systemic challenges hindering children from reaching their full potential.
TFN is a nationwide movement dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for all children in Nigeria. In 2017, the organisation launched its fellowship programme and to date, has successfully placed over 1,500 fellows across public primary and secondary schools in Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, and Oyo states.
This year, over 30,000 applicants aspired to join the programme; however, only 505 fellows and 93 school leaders were selected to join the 2024 cohort.
The organisation remains steadfast in its mission to inspire and empower a new generation of leaders who will reshape Nigeria’s educational landscape.
TFN as a matter of fact is currently collaborating with Hans and Rene to raise N40 million towards educating 1,000 children in 2024 and solicits supports from well-meaning Nigerians.
Teach For Nigeria is a non-profit organisation dedicated to mobilising leaders to expand educational opportunities and equity for children from marginalised backgrounds.
Since its inception, Teach For Nigeria has recruited and placed over 1,500 fellows, directly impacting over 200,000 students across four states in Nigeria. As part of the Teach For All network, the organisation is inspired by the proven success of similar initiatives globally.
