The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training and capacity development in aviation meteorology and related disciplines.

According to a statement by the Agency, the partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday by Charles Anosike,  Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, and Danjuma Ismaila, Rector of NCAT.

The agreement underscores a shared commitment to deepening collaboration in human capital development, improving technical competence, and enhancing service delivery across Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.

Under the framework, both institutions will collaborate in the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes, and deliver specialised long- and short-term courses for NiMet personnel.

The MoU also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives, and the use of NiMet’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for ICAO-compliant aviation training.

The partnership targets critical professional areas including aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems, and airport operations. It also covers jointly organised programmes such as Diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to continuous human capital development, noting that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration, and institutional partnerships remains vital to advancing operational excellence.

He emphasised that strengthening professional capacity within the aviation meteorology value chain is essential to supporting safe, efficient, and reliable air navigation services in Nigeria.
