The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Aviation Chapter recently convened its special monthly meeting for August 2025 in Lagos, bringing together a diverse group of chartered accountants from across the country.

The hybrid event, which was well-attended by professionals from various sectors of the aviation industry, marked a significant milestone in the chapter’s efforts to boost member participation and visibility.

During the meeting, the ICAN Aviation Chapter inaugurated five new sub-committees aimed at driving the chapter’s objectives forward.

These sub-committees, focused on Fund-Raising, University Relations, Advocacy, Technical, and Government Relations, were given specific terms of reference, key performance indicators, and measurable goals to guide their work.

The establishment of these sub-committees is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the chapter’s reach and influence within the aviation industry.

A major highlight of the meeting was the technical session on “Key Financial Ratios and Performance Metrics in the Aviation Industry: Driving Efficiency and Sustainability across Airlines, Airports, and Ground Handling activities.”

Led by Olumuyiwa Adebayo, a prominent figure in the finance sector, the session provided valuable insights into the application of fundamental financial ratios and performance metrics to improve efficiency and sustainability within aviation businesses.

Adebayo’s presentation emphasised the importance of striking a balance between financial and sustainability goals in aviation businesses. He stressed that organisations must optimise costs, make data-driven investment decisions, and integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks into their operations to achieve long-term success.

The meeting drew praise from attendees, who expressed their enthusiasm for the insightful discussions and looked forward to the next gathering.

Ayodele Olatiregun, Chairman of the ICAN Aviation Chapter,  expressed his satisfaction with the strong member turnout and highlighted the importance of increased collaboration among chartered accountants working in the aviation sector.
