The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining reforms in the aviation sector to improve safety, modernise infrastructure, create jobs and attract investment, as part of efforts to position Nigeria’s aviation industry as a catalyst for economic growth and global competitiveness.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, stated this on Tuesday at the Second Quarter 2026 Hybrid Stakeholders/Citizen Engagement on Presidential Priorities and Ministerial Deliverables in the Aviation Sector, held in Abuja.

Represented by Mahmud Adam Kambari, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the minister said the engagement reflected the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, collaboration and innovation in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He described the quarterly engagement as more than a routine meeting, saying it provides a strategic platform for government, industry operators, development partners and citizens to assess progress, exchange ideas and jointly shape the future of Nigeria’s aviation and aerospace industry.

According to Kambari, the Ministry has recorded notable progress in implementing its presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables, particularly in strengthening aviation safety and security, expanding critical infrastructure, modernising airports and air navigation systems, promoting local content and employment opportunities, and improving the overall passenger travel experience.

He noted that the aviation sector remains a critical enabler of national development through its role in facilitating trade, tourism, investment, regional integration and global connectivity.

“The continued collaboration of government, private sector operators, development partners and citizens is essential to building a resilient, efficient and globally competitive aviation industry,” he said.

Kambari added that the engagement was designed not only to showcase achievements but also to review lessons learned, identify emerging challenges and gather stakeholder feedback to improve policy implementation and service delivery across the sector.

He urged participants to provide constructive recommendations and innovative ideas that would support evidence-based decision-making and accelerate the achievement of the Ministry’s strategic objectives.

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to meeting global aviation standards, Kambari said the Ministry would continue to pursue policies aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating sustainable employment opportunities, attracting investment and delivering world-class services to both domestic and international travellers.

He also appreciated stakeholders for their continued partnership in the development of the aviation industry, expressing confidence that the outcomes of the engagement would translate into practical actions that strengthen collaboration and accelerate sectoral growth.

According to a statement signed by Chindaya Ahmadu Audu Adamu, Director, Press and Public Affairs, Presentations by aviation agencies highlighted progress in airport infrastructure development, staff capacity-building programmes, aviation safety and security systems, and inter-agency collaboration.

The agencies also reaffirmed their commitment to full compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) as part of efforts to build a safer, more efficient and sustainable aviation industry.
