A Dread In The Spine – by Akintayo Akinjide
The story is set in Fortunecity, a fictional private island in Nigeria that seems far more developed and more organized than what we have in our current Nigerian setting. The Private Island is divided into Greencity, Brownvalley, Blacktown, and Suncity. But major events take place in Greencity, a place where nothing really seems like it is.
It so turns out, that as much as the city seemed more developed and organized, the police department couldn’t crack a case, which leads to some rich people coming together to pay huge sums of money to Eagle Eyes Security to investigate the disappearance and deaths of certain prostitutes who claim they saw heaven. One by one, their bodies are discovered. And because the payment is huge, Johnson only wants the best hand in the case. Nosa.
Unfortunately, those around Nosa are in one way or the other, tied to the crime and he, being ignorant of their involvement, is kicked around as they are always a step ahead of him.

Felicia – by Peter Nnajiofor
Felicia is a collection of four short stories centered on women, the society, and the circumstances that make them who they are. It is what one would call a reflection of the good, bad and ugly.
The first 3 stories have a pattern of abuse, love, betrayal, ambition, drugs, and romance. The editing is clean. The writing style is unique. But I wish the stories were a little longer.
The stories in Peter Nnajiofor’s Felicia are well written and endowed with hot and steamy sex scenes, except the last story, Lord of Host. And although all 4 stories were nice, the last really got my attention as it reads more like something out of Vampire Diaries. I just didn’t expect it to end as it did though and I do hope the author would develop it into a full novella or novel.

Shadows From the Past – by Chigozie Anuli Mbadugha
How does one describe a circumstance that makes one’s life a living hell? How does the sudden downturn of events cause one to become heartless and careless?
When I started reading Chigozie Anuli Mbadugha’s “Shadows From The Past,” I thought it was centered on a rape victim and how she survived the trauma and moved ahead.
Well, that’s not the exact case with Ada, her mother, and siblings. It is instead, about their bad childhood experiences and how it affected them negatively, even after 20 years.
Ada lives in fear of her checkered past. Memories of her pain limit her ability to trust and love completely. She visits Nigeria after several years in the UK and is totally unprepared for the secrets she has to confront and the discovery that her siblings are permanently scarred from childhood abuse. Can she face her own shadows and help them overcome theirs?
