Tems defeats Halle Bailey, CeCe Winans, others to win BET Awards…see winners’ full list

BET Awards

Temilade Openiyi, Nigerian singer, popularly known as Tems has won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award category of the 2024 BET awards.

She defeated Shirley Caesar,Kirk Franklin, Halle Bailey, CeCe Winans, Erica Campbell, Maverick City Music, Naomi Raine & Chandler Moore, to win the award with her song “Me & U”

The singer had previously earned a Grammy laurel with a song “Essence” featured by Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun.

Also, Tyla Laura Seethal, South African singer popularly known as Tyla, on Monday, won the Best New Artist at the BET Awards 2024.

She also won the award for ‘Best International Act’ defeating Nigerian acts – Ahmed Ololade and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe known as Asake and Ayra Starr, respectively, and other artistes across the globe.

Tyla, through her debut single, ‘Water’, won the Grammy awards a few months ago at 22 years old, thereby becoming the youngest African singer to win the laurel.

While acknowledging the award, she dedicated the award to the African continent, saying, “This is such a gift to be here. I want to dedicate this one to Africa. I want to dedicate this to all the African superstars before me that didn’t get these opportunities that I’m getting. This is just amazing. Africa to the world guys.”
