NALDA launches ambitious agric projects to boost food security

The Nigerian Government, through the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), has unveiled a series of initiatives to transform the Country’s agricultural sector and ensure food security.

Cornelius Adebayo, Executive Secretary of the NALDA, stated this while providing an overview of the Agency’s key projects to the Agric Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ACAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the Executive Secretary, the projects are designed to promote economic growth, employment opportunities, and increased food production.

He listed that the key projects by the Agency included the “Restoration Project,” “AQUA Health Project,” “Renewed Hope Restoration Project,” and “Green Hope Project.

He added, “The Restoration Project is a key initiative that will put displaced farmers back into the economy. “We need to give them money, not just to survive, but to thrive.”

The AQUA Health Project focuses on aquaculture, providing support for rural communities to engage in fish farming. The project aims to increase fish production, reduce imports, and promote export-oriented agriculture.

The Green Hope Project promotes greenhouse farming, with a focus on decentralising food production and reducing reliance on open-field cultivation. The project includes the distribution of solar pumps to farmers, reducing their dependence on petrol and lowering production costs.

Adebayo further noted that the Agency had also partnered with some institutions to provide high-tech greenhouses, increasing output and promoting export-oriented agriculture.

The projects are expected to have a significant impact, on Nigeria’s agricultural sector, promoting economic growth, providing employment opportunities, and ensuring food security.

Adebayo, however, called on stakeholders, including farmers, private sector investors, and the media, to support these efforts and work together to ensure Nigeria’s food security.
