The Federal Government, through the Fadama III Additional Financing AF Programme, has provided support for 14,495 tomato, sorghum and rice farmers in Kano State.
Shuaibu Suleiman, Kano State Fadama Project Coordinator, made the disclosure in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Suleiman said that 14,495 farmers from Kano had benefitted from the project on production group and 340 farmers on asset acquisition.
He said that the project registered 972 groups across the three value chains supported by the project – rice, tomato and sorghum- while it supported 34 groups with assets.
The coordinator added that the project constructed an agricultural equipment hiring centre, and provided five tractors and farm implements.
“Fadama has also constructed 50km of roads across six local government areas, 35 tube wells, 27 boreholes and six aggregation centres.
“The success record review shows an average of 61 per cent increase in the income among 14,495 farmers and an average of 73 per cent increase in yields.
“Out of the beneficiaries, 75 per cent adoptees of the technology transferred and 95 per cent expressed satisfaction on operation, maintenance and utilisation of assets acquired,” he told NAN.
NAN reports that Kano State is one of the six core states of Fadama III AF Programme and the only state participating in the three value chains of rice, sorghum and tomato.
