Lobby group wants KLM back to Kano

A powerful interest which consists of individuals within the government of Kano State and the Kano emirate council is currently mounting pressure on the management of KLM, one of the foreign airlines that pulled out of the commercial city of Kano, to return.

KLM, which is one of the dominant airlines operating at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), winded its Kano-Amsterdam route, early last year, on the ground that the route is no longer profitable.

The exit of the airline from Kano, which is the most active business centre in the northern part of the country, has compounded the declining economic challenge confronting the state.

The arrow heads of the interest group lobbying the airline is the Kano State deputy governor, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje and Ahmad Rabiu, the immediate past president of Kano Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industry and Agriculture (KACCIMA).
