A former ambassador of the United States to Nigeria and currently director general of the International Organisation for Migration, a United Nations’ agency, William Lacy Swing, has said the world is witnessing movement of people more in the 21st century as record has revealed that about a billion people are migrants.

William Lacy, who addressed newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, said he was in Nigeria to support the nation on better ways of improving activities of migration and put a stop to trafficking. He revealed that the organisation was working on a regional migration policy that would look at countering trafficking as he advised Nigeria to intensify its prosecution of human traffickers.

Although the former envoy admitted there are opportunities that could be found from migrants especially in areas of skills and ideas, he, however, admitted that there are issues of trafficking as there are challenges of protecting the rights of migrants of whom about 50 percent are mostly women
