Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit to ailing former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, was to ascertain the former President’s health status and needs.
A Presidency source informed BusinessDay on Friday, adding that despite the initial apprehension around the former President’s health ” he is recovering fast”.
The Presidency source who didn’t want his name in print also dismissed rumours that the former President is “critically ill”.

He noted that Shettima was ” directed by President Bola Tinubu to check on the former President and make necessary arrangements for proper care should there be need”.
” There is nothing usual about the trip. Anybody can be sick. What matters is that the President took proactive response”.
This information supports the post by Bashir Ahmad, former aide to Buhari who laid to rest, fears about claims that Buhari’s condition was “critical”.
Bashir had posted pictures of Akinwunmi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank AFDB with the President.
Ahmad had in his X handle prayed for quick recovery for the former President.
“I wish H.E. former President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari a good, strong and speedy recovery. You are in my thoughts and prayers, with much love and all good wishes. Looking forward to seeing you again soon Sir in great health and vitality.”
BusinessDay recalled that the former President had spent most of his first tenure ( 2015-2019) visiting hospital in the UK.

He however, regained his health which accounted for his fewer visits to the UK for medical reasons in his second tenure.
As at August 2021, the President spent over 200 days of his tenure visiting the UK hospitals.
