Man in police custody in Jigawa for killing 75-year-old mother

Hussaini Abubakar, a 30-year-old man, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command over the killing of his 75-year- old mother, Dahara Mu’azu, in Dantanoma quarters, Gumel Local Government Area.

A statement issued by Shi’isu Lawan Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Police Command, said that the operatives from the Gumel Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call on Sunday evening regarding a violent assault.

He stated that upon arriving at the scene, police discovered that Abubakar had fatally attacked his mother by repeatedly striking her head with mud blocks.

The elderly victim was found in a pool of her own blood with severe head injuries and was rushed to Gumel General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the medical personnel.

Adam further stated that the suspect has been arrested and was cooperating with investigators as the police conduct a thorough investigation.

He assured that the suspect was expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

According to him, the state commissioner of Police, A. T. Abdullahi, has directed the Criminal Investigation Department to ensure swift justice.

Adam called on the public to report early signs of mental health issues or domestic violence to the police or community leaders to prevent avoidable tragedies in the future.
