President Bola Tinubu has been conferred with the prestigious title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL), the second highest national honor bestowed by the Caribbean nation of Saint Lucia.

According to Saint Lucia’s authorities, the award recognises President Tinubu’s exceptional leadership and his commitment to fostering regional and international cooperation.

The conferment of this title symbolises the strengthening of bilateral relations between Nigeria and Saint Lucia, as well as broader ties between Africa and the Caribbean. It highlights President Tinubu’s efforts to promote diplomatic relations, trade, education, cultural exchange, and political cooperation between nations, the Caribbean country said in a press release.

The honor was presented Tuesday during a special ceremony attended by high-ranking officials and international dignitaries, marking a significant moment in Nigeria’s international relations.

“The decision to confer this honour reflects Saint Lucia’s appreciation for President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering cooperation across key areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, climate resilience, healthcare, education, and cultural exchange,” a statement from the office of Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Philip Pierre read.

“It also affirms a shared vision for global South solidarity, rooted in historical connection and future collaboration.

“Upon completion of the formal investiture, His Excellency will be accorded the title: His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, KCOSL (Hon.) President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The honour highlighted the mutual respect and collaboration between the two nations, marking a diplomatic milestone for Africa’s most populous nation.

“The Government and People of Saint Lucia extend warm congratulations to President Tinubu and reaffirm their commitment to deepening bilateral engagement with Nigeria and advancing the interests of the wider African-Caribbean community,” the statement from Pierre said.
