I was discussing with my youngest son on phone earlier today, he is 20 years old and about to begin his final year undergraduate degree. It is the summer holiday and he has a lot of objectives to achieve during this time. He noticed that he was not making a head way with one of these objectives because he had told himself that it would be difficult to achieve. In other words, he was having a fixed mindset about this objective and so he felt stuck. As we discussed, I immediately moved from mother to coach to provide him with insights to move from a fixed mindset to a transformational mindset. At the end of the phone call, he had clarity on how to tackle this objective to arrive at a desirable result.

One thing that we fail to realise as individuals is the fact that the mind is like a magnet, it attracts different objects surrounding it. Therefore, you need to be careful about the thoughts you have because they will create your reality because mindset determines the reality of your existence.

What is a mindset?

Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation. It means that what you believe about yourself impacts your success or failure.

“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” –

Albert Einstein

This is a growth mindset that shows that consistent problem solving makes you appear smarter because you arrive at solutions quicker.

“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible!’” –

Audrey Hepburn

This kind of mindset makes you not to focus on limitations or impossibilities. It makes you focus on only your leverage.

“Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” –

John Wooden

Because what you focus on expands, this mindset suggests that you should focus on only what you can do instead of what you cannot do.

When you think in these ways, you will be able to transform your life for the better.

What is transformation?

This is a complete and improved change of appearance, behaviour, outlook, outcomes, habits or character of something or someone. A growth mindset enables you see an improved version of things. From basic to extra ordinary, regardless of the situation.

Late last month, I decided that I wanted to create a unique experience for working mothers where they could come and learn wealth mindset principles to thrive in business and career, well-being principles and work life principles to thrive in life and business without burnout.

I wanted this event to happen just before mother’s day and I only had 3 weeks to plan, promote and present a unique experience to over 70 women in a premium location. It sounded unreasonable and I contemplated postponing due to poor ticket sales and lack of sponsors.

However, because my “why” was bigger than my limitations, the LIFE SYNC EXPERIENCE was successful because I used a transformational mindset.

Keys to transform your mindset:

◦ T – Take action consistently on all the important things- Avoid inertia and procrastination like a plague because it keeps you stuck.

◦ R – Resilience must be a daily practice when things go wrong – this helps opportunity find you.

◦ A- Audacity is the key to success. “It’s your audacity that will save you from mediocrity” Become brave, have valour, grit and courage.

◦ N- Never focus on limits, focus on your leverage – all you have gone through is proof that you are a survivor; use that as leverage for your breakthrough

◦ S – Solve the problem, do not run from it or dread it – Problem solving improves your value and this helps you create more wealth for yourself.

◦ F- faith over fear will help you overcome adversity – faith brings endless possibilities.

◦ O- Optimistic approach to handling adversity – this keeps you hopeful and confident about your future.

◦ R- Reset your mind towards success- always be ready to reset. “Never let external situations determine your internal experiences”; reset the mood, reset your mind, reset your attitude, reset your thoughts. Become a thermostat; you determine the temperature.

◦ M- Mindful and intentional in the things that will move the needle in your life – practice mindfulness and be intentional all the time. This improves focus to prevent distractions and helps you achieve your goals faster.
