The National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), on Friday urged the leadership of the 8th National Assembly to embark on reconciling members for faster national development.
Issa Aremu, the NUTGTWN General Secretary, said in a statement that the reconciliation of the lawmakers, irrespective of their party affliation, would enhance proper handling of legislative matters.
According to the statement, the crises that followed the emergence of the new leadership in the upper and lower chambers should not be allowed to continue.
“The Senate and the House of Representatives should not be characterised by so much tension, doubt and acrimonies,” it stated.
“Labour demands that the resolution of the current crisis of leadership of the National Assembly must be in favour of Nigeria and strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy.”
“The Nigeria Labour Congress and Nigerians are looking forward to progressive legislations for development,’’ the statement added.”
It also said the union expected legislations that would enhance productivity and protection of domestic industry to ensure dignity of labour.
The union called for the implementation of the report of the national conference “to address the naughty twin-issues of management of political parties, electoral matters and good governance in the country.”
