Jersey’s private wealth management, funds and capital markets strengths will be showcased at a conference in Lagos this week, as part of a continent-wide road-show series organised by the body that represents and promotes Jersey’s finance industry Jersey Finance.
The event, to be held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos on 11 June from 4.15pm7pm, will be entitled ‘Mapping the Future’ and will feature talks from Richard Corrigan, Deputy CEO, Jersey Finance, and Senator Philip Ozouf, Assistant Chief Minister of The Government of Jersey, who will discuss current trends in global financial services, the role of IFCs, and how Jersey is delivering a high quality service tailored to the changing needs of the Africa marketplace.
They will also explore how Jersey is well placed to contribute to economic growth in Africa by providing protection for investors, access to capital markets, efficient cross-border investment pooling, robust regulation and tax neutrality.
Organised with the support of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the conference is set to appeal to a broad cross section of private client practitioners, lawyers, investors, advisors and other finance professionals.  Additionally an address will be delivered at the event by the director of UKTI Nigeria, Chris Maskell.
Richard Corrigan, Deputy CEO, Jersey Finance, said:
“As investors in Africa seek increasingly sophisticated cross-border support, we are seeing growing interest in what Jersey can offer across the private client, funds and capital markets spaces. Particularly with investors placing such importance on security and asset protection, Jersey is increasingly finding favour in these markets, and that will be a central message throughout our roadshows. We will also be highlighting the findings of the ‘Value to Africa’ report published by Capital Economics last year, which found that Jersey can play a pivotal role in facilitating foreign infrastructure investment into Africa as the continent seeks to realise its significant growth potential.”
Jersey is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, located in the English Channel. Its largest industry is financial services, with over 20 percent of the population employed in the sector.
Jersey Finance, which is run as a not-for-profit organisation, promotes Jersey as an International Finance Centre and has representative offices in Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and dedicated representatives in London, Shanghai and India.
