A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Girl-Child Rights Awareness Initiative in Africa, has urged the new 8th National Assembly to prioritise girl-child protection.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Ajibola Temitope, said the girl-child in Nigeria had become vulnerable and highly prone to danger and all forms of molestation and harassment.
Temitope, who recalled the case of the abducted Chibok girls, called for legislation to protect defenceless young females.
“As we welcome the newly inaugurated lawmakers, we consider it important to remind them of the urgent need to protect the girl-child and motherhood in general.”
“We want the 8th National Assembly to quickly pass a law that will insulate the girl-child against any form of humiliation, harassment and intimidation.”
“We are saddened by the level of humiliation and inhuman treatment the girl-child has been subjected to in the last couple of years,” she said.
