Anambra State has partnered with the Government of Japan and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to tackle past and future climate disasters.

This partnership follows two years of planning, following direct response to the devastating 2022 floods that displaced over 496,000 people and caused losses, exceeding $155 million, a statement by Law Mefor, commissioner for information, Anambra State, stated.

Mefor said, “With this support, Anambra is now better equipped to prevent and respond to climate disasters.

“I am delighted to share with you that Anambra State has achieved a major milestone in disaster preparedness and climate resilience through a landmark partnership with the Government of Japan and UNOPS.

“Deliverables of the Project according to the Commissioner include: 10 Emergency Response Vehicles – Enhancing rapid deployment in disaster-hit areas, State-of-the-Art GPS Flood Monitoring Devices – Strengthening early warning systems and Advanced Disaster Tracking & Relief Equipment – Improving coordination and response efforts.

“This milestone underscores Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s unwavering commitment to building a resilient and sustainable Anambra. We thank the Government of Japan and UNOPS for their invaluable support in making this a reality.”
