Group commissions 245 officers to promote peace across Nigeria

A humanitarian group, Special Chaplains Peace Corps (SCPC), has commissioned 245 officers drawn from the 36 states and the FCT to promote peace in Nigeria.

Ochigbo Idoko, commander general, SCPC, announced the creation of a special unit of the Corps with the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, during the commissioning of the first Batch A officers which held on Friday in Abuja.

“We believe PWDs understand and communicate in their uniques ways, so S.C.P.C is training Chaplains that are PWDs to also communicate and implement our visions and missions making it easy to reach all and sundry.

“As we move forward, our mission is not just about serving others, but about being a symbol of hope and inspiration.”

Idoko noted that the SCPC is a non-combat, peacebuilding and humanitarian chaplain organisation, dedicated to promoting emotional and spiritual well-being to personnel, families, communities, conflict resolution, and community development.

“We operate under a framework of collaboration, not competition, with other organs to advance the Renewed Hope agenda of the current administration.

“The mission of the corps is built on 3 pillars, which includes Peacebuilding:Emotional and Spiritual Support as well as Community Development,” he added.

“As Humanitarians,S.C.P.C empower communities through education, economic empowerment, and social welfare programs.

“As a peace-oriented organisation, we reject violence, rivalry, and confrontation. Instead, we foster partnerships with sister security agencies to create a safer, more peaceful environment for all Nigerians.

“With our International partners,donors and good-spirited individuals, the Special Chaplains Peace Corps is committed to providing holistic support to personnel, individuals, families, and communities. Our multifaceted approach encompasses all.

“By working together, we aim to make a positive impact on our nation and contribute to the realisation of the Renewed Hope agenda. As we celebrate this achievement, I am pleased to announce that preparations are underway for Batch B, which will further strengthen our ranks and expand our reach. We are committed to building a formidable team that will make a lasting impact in our nation and the world.”

In her remarks, Mary Umoh, acting commandant, Rivers State, and one of the commissioned officers, said: “We are a paramilitary, non-combatant, non-profit, Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) giving ourselves to peace, harmony, and love to our fellow man. We are called to bring humanitarian help to people within and outside the country.”

She noted that the organisation had received government support and trainings through the field drills, in-house command trainings, alphanumeric coding, among others.

Also speaking, Ochinya Raphael, deputy commandant, Benue state Command, said the commissioned officers have undergone rigorous trainings over the past two months

“The job is purely humanitarian, with a spiritual and social aspect to it. We are expected to go into society and help the less privileged, make them have a sense of belonging socially and spiritually.”
