Gov. Mohammed Abdubakar of Bauchi State, on Tuesday, said that it would increase investment in the agricultural sector to boost income and employment generation.
He made the pledge during a state-wide broadcast to the people of the state in Bauchi.
According to him, his administration will be an innovative government and one that will drive agricultural practice as a viable enterprise.
“We will work to achieve a more efficient system from the procurement and distribution of fertilisers to provision of quality seedlings, extension services and opportunities in equipment hiring.
“We will also ensure the provision of veterinary services and personnel to provision of common facility for the processing of farm produce in various location comprising.
“These facilities will include ware house clusters, milling facilities, packaging lines, cold store chains and juice extracting facilities among others.
“We are prepared to provide essential inputs to achieve successes in the area of agricultural entrepreneurship,’’ the governor said.
Abubakar explained that investing in the agricultural sector become importance due to its huge potential in job creation, food security and endowments on the path to wealth creation.
He said that the state currently has less than 1,200 tonnes of fertiliser in its ware house as against the minimum of 20,000 tonnes required for this year’s farming season.
The governor, however, said that his administration would procure more fertilisers and other inputs to meet the needs of teeming farmers in the state.
