Buhari sworn in as president

Muhammadu Buhari was on Friday sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, taking over from Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari, a former military Head of State famous for his 1980s “war on indiscipline”, has promised Nigerians during his campaign a more democratic approach during his second time in office.

He also promised a firm fight against corrupt practices that has plunge Nigeria, an oil rich nation, to the doldrums due to years of misrule.

Jonathan has won praise for conceding defeat gracefully, which has been beset by political violence and never before seen the handover of power from a sitting president to an opposition candidate.
