Star SuperFans witnessed an explosive matchup in the fifth episode, which aired this week. Featuring two evenly matched teams, Ultimate FC made up of five Chelsea fans and Five Star FC made up of five Arsenal supporters, the episode became the first to go to penalties since the inception of the game show, and it saw tension and excitement reach an unprecedented level.

Ultimate FC’s Patrick Oti kicked off proceedings with a 20-pointer, which he missed, and Five Star FC’s Chinedu Mmadu did likewise. Babatunde Clement and Ejike Madueke both missed for Ultimate FC and Five Star FC respectively before Timothy Ike of Ultimate FC scored the game’s first 20-pointer, moving his team deep into Five Star FC’s territory. James Samuel and Collins Ugwu then missed questions for Five Star and Ultimate before Kelechi Ohaju of Five Star replied with a correctly answered 20-pointer. Ultimate’s Chukwuma Oragui then missed his question and Trust Monday Andah of Five Star scored a 10-pointer to end a tense first half delicately poised with the scores at nil-nil.

The second half followed in the same pattern as the first, with both teams missing all their questions until Ultimate FC scored a 10-pointer with the very last question of the half to leave the game still deadlocked at nil-nil. Host Mozez Praiz kicked off extra time proceedings with a debate topic, which pitted Arsenal against Chelsea, and Babatunde Clement of Ultimate FC faced off against Trust Monday Ansah of Five Star FC. After two minutes of intense debate, the audience voted for Five Star FC and at last the deadlock had been broken. 1-0 to Five Star FC!

Thus came the moment of truth – a sudden death penalty shootout where the contestants had to back-heel a ball into a mini goalpost without looking at it.

Monday Ansah stepped up for Five Star FC and netted the ball effortlessly. All the pressure was now on Collins Ugwu of Ultimate FC. Should he miss, Five Star FC would be crowned this week’s champions and go home with the N1 million and the bragging rights of SuperFans of all SuperFans. He steadied himself and back-heeled the ball – off target to the left of the goalpost and the studio erupted as Five Star FC went into wild celebration and Ultimate FC’s members sank to their knees in disappointment.

It was a wonderfully exciting but cruel end to a fantastic game, and Five Star FC victoriously went home with the N1 million cheque while Ultimate FC went home with N100,000 consolation prize.
