The Federal Government has clarified that President Goodluck Jonathan would hand over government to the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on May 29 and not at a handover dinner on May 28 as had been reported.
Briefing journalists after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which was chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, Patricia Akwashiki, the minister of information, said though a dinner would still be hosted by Jonathan for Buhari on May 28, it is, however, not intended to be a handover ceremony.
She added that the president-elect may be honoured with an award.
The minister further noted that all handover briefs being coordinated by the secretary to the government of the federation would be ready by May 28.
Akwashiki also allayed the fears of Federal Government contractors who may be worried about the revocation of their contracts by the incoming government, stating that government is a continuous process and all viable contracts would still be sustained.
She stressed that if there had been any slowing down of projects by contractors, it may be a result of the non-assent to the 2015 budget, and not because of fears of revocation by incoming government.
