Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson has commended stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the rescheduled House of Assembly election in the state.

Dickson in a Government House statement on Monday signed by his chief press secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson mentioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for commendation in last weekend’s poll.

The governor also hailed the conduct of the electorate, but opposition political parties are set to contest the outcome of the entire House of Assembly polls on grounds of some alleged irregularities.

Dickson attributed the peaceful outcome to his administration’s huge investment in security as well as the growing level of exposure and understanding of the electoral process by the citizenry.

He also felicitated with victorious Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates especially the principal officers of the house who were returned in the elections.

But the last may not have been heard of the elections which held on April 11 and 18 as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Baritor Kpaghih told newsmen that aggrieved parties and candidates were heading for the election petitions tribunal.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) had complained of several irregularities while the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) ditched a last minute boycott to participate in the rescheduled election in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
