Isaac Adewole, vice chancellor, University of Ibadan, and Gabriel Leke Abegunrin, archbishop of Ibadan, have commended President Jonathan for accepting result of the just concluded general election in good faith, urging politicians and world leaders to emulate his efforts at strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.

They also said that the President’s resolve not to contest the result shows he is not power-drunk.

Speaking at the Catholic Chaplain of the University of Ibadan during a national conference tagged: ‘International Pro-life and Pro-Family Conference in Ibadan’, Abegunrin said Nigerians would never forget the legacies of President Jonathan for encouraging stability in polity.

According to him, “Nigerians will forever remember the effort of President Jonathan in stabilising our polity.”

Speaking on the theme of the conference, the cleric said Nigerians should endeavour to protect life and family to avoid the wrath of God.

“There is little or no respect for life anymore and of course, without saying too much, the Church is always preaching to save life because if we are not saving life, why are we in the world?”

Abegunrin therefore, enjoined the members of the public either Christians or Muslims

to be interested in protecting life and having interest in the family so that the family structure will be a setup to care for pregnancy.

On his part, Adewole, a professor, said that President Jonathan deserves commendation for being the first person to congratulate the president-elect, Muhammudu Buhari.

“We need to appreciate President Jonathan for being the first person in the history of Nigeria to allow free, fair, and credible elections. He was also the first person to congratulate the president-elect. World leaders should emulate his spirit of sportsmanship
