Pat Utomi, a professor of political economy, said a political party cannot save Nigeria from its current situation, urging citizens to take back the country.

Utomi said this in an interview on Arise News on Monday, stating that the Nigerian political class destroyed the future of the country.

“Politicians cannot save you in Nigeria; a political party cannot save you, citizens have to take back their country. That’s the truth of the matter,” the former presidential candidate said.

Utomi said Nigerian politicians have forgotten the mission of politics, which is to “use creativity to make the next generation better than this generation.”

“Everybody is scrambling for a share of the national cake, and politicians have forgotten the mission of politics,” he said.

The professor also spoke about a plan to create a pro-people movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He argued that the planned mega party is not a typical political party but a movement of values.

“It is very easy to play propaganda politics and put people against one another, so this new tribe is about values, human solidarity, etc,” Utomi said.
