Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, governorship candidate of Ogun State People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government under Governor Ibikunle Amosun in the state has destroyed over 40 campaign billboards of President Goodluck Jonathan, gubernatorial, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates in the last few weeks.
The allegation came on the heels of recent removal in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu areas of effigy and billboards of Gboyega Isiaka, PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state. Isiaka, who spoke with journalists at the Secretariat of the party in Abeokuta, condemned the removal and destruction of candidates’ billboards contesting in PDP, including President Goodluck Jonathan, Isiaka; Bisola Sodipo-Clark, Ogun Central Senatorial candidate and Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, Ifo-Ewekoro federal constituency.
Isiaka disclosed that several millions of naira had been lost to billboards and effigies being removed by APC-led Ogun State government, saying: “At the last count, over forty standing boards of our candidates have either been destroyed or stolen. In many other locations, the teams installing our boards and posters have been brutalised. “Yes, where money is supposed to be paid, we have paid. For instance, we don’t pay for posters and A-boards, there is nothing like that; the A-boards are being removed virtually every night on the streets of Abeokuta and we have it on good authority that it is being done by agents of APC and its government.
“But for Federal roads, we do not require any payment to be made to the state government, we have approval for that; what I am saying is that we make payment where we require to make payment. We are following the law the way it should be done. I am also told that they talk about the issue of height and I said one of the APC senatorial candidates, Dapo Abiodun’s billboard along Sagamu is taller than mine, then, I don’t understand their argument.”
He, however, threatened to resort to legal action against Governor Amosun and All Progressives Congress (APC) if the removal and destruction of PDP candidates’ campaign bill- boards and posters continued, but declared that he and PDP Ogun state chapter had already petitioned the State Security Service and the Nigeria Police on the alleged bad political situation being experienced in the hands of Governor Amosun and APC.
