Honeywell Oil and Gas Limited, a member of the Honeywell Group, has launched Synlube 5W-40, full synthetic engine oil, even as it revealed its plan to capture the Nigerian lubricant market.

The company stated this at the formal unveiling of the product it described as supreme performance passenger car motor oil formulated from the finest quality synthetic base stocks and state-of-the-art additive technology.

In his address at the unveiling ceremony, in Lagos, Oba Otudeko, chairman, Honeywell Group, who was represented by Teddy Ngu, head of corporate development and investments, said the new engine oil was of the highest standard.

“This product, the Honeywell Synlube 5W-40, is fully-synthetic premium engine oil designed for ultimate engine performance, formulated from the finest quality synthetic base stocks and an excellent blend of chemical additives. This product prolongs engine life, delivers extended drain interval and considerable savings on fuel,” he said.

The introduction of the new product into the market coincided with and bode well for the Federal Government’s new automotive policy, as it provides a platform for Nigerian made vehicles to begin using made-in-Nigeria lubricants, Otudeko said.

“This product could not have arrived at a better time than this when the automotive policy of the Federal Government is just coming on stream and is in line with the policy which encourages the local production of automobiles which has made it imperative for lubricant manufacturers like Honeywell to produce the latest API grade of lubricants that will oil these vehicles as they continue to roll off the assembly lines,” he said.

Speaking further, the Honeywell chairman stated that with the launch of the new lubricant, the Group was celebrating excellence and was recommitting itself to international best practices.

“Honeywell Group is reputed for production and distribution of high quality products using cutting edge technology. We love to set pace for others. We conduct our business with high levels of integrity and professionalism in line with our Group’s vision of being the most admired African company in terms of our successes, practices and people,” Otudeko explained.

Usman Ndanusa, director in charge of retail outlets monitoring (ROM), who represented the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) at the occasion, said the agency identified with Honeywell’s track record of quality as shown in all its products.

“We identify with Honeywell, we expect they will partner with DPR to conform to our regulatory requirements,” Ndanusa said, adding that the “DPR is happy to see the product; we will continue to monitor it to ensure it maintains the quality it is identified with,” he explained.

According to Emma Osagie, an engineer and chairman of Petroleum Downstream Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) as well as the financial secretary of Lubricant Producers Association of Nigeria (LUPAN), motorists should change to Synlube engine oil as Honeywell has a track record of performance that the quality of the product will attest to.
