Layer3, one of Nigeria’s leading network solution providers and systems integrators, has sponsored a network and security training for the technical staff of the Nigerian Research and Education Network.

The intensive one-week training which held at the NgREN facilities was facilitated by Spectrum, a renowned and award-winning ICT training provider with operations in the United Arab Emirates and India.

The training was focused on Juniper Networks routing, switching and security platforms and is part of Layer3 and Juniper Networks effort aimed at boosting capacity acquisition in emerging and next generation network and security platforms amongst the NgREN staff.

“Layer3 is committed to building capacity in the field of ICT, especially in emerging and next generation network solutions, in higher education institutions in Nigeria and the NgREN presents a good platform, considering their strategic position in the scheme of things now and the future”, said Oyaje Idoko, Layer3’s CEO.

He added “Our commitment to partnering with NgREN is an extension of what we have been doing in several higher educational institutions and goes beyond just this one-off training. We have also set up a one-of-a-kind state-of-the-art network lab with remote access granted to all the participants of the training.

“We understand that one week is too short a time for the participants to try out all the lessons learned, hence the need to give them a platform to continually try out what they have learnt and simulate all kinds of network. This is the key to making them become experts in this field. The lab is also accessible to students and staff from several other universities in Nigeria.”

In his remark, Joshua Atah, NgREN’s managing director applauded the participants for the enthusiasm demonstrated throughout the training and encouraged them to use the lessons learned and the lab access opportunity presented to develop themselves, so as to better position themselves to effectively manage the NgREN.

He also appreciated Layer3’s effort for the good work done and charged other companies to follow the example that has been set by Layer3.
