Benin monarch, Emir of Kano strengthen age-long bond for national cohesion

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, and the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, at the weekend strengthened the existing relationship that has lasted for a very long time between the two kingdoms.

The Benin monarch, while receiving the Emir of Kano who was on a royal visit to the palace in Benin City, said it buttresses the age-long traditions of their forefathers and would open new vistas of possibilities.

Oba Ewuare II further said that his decision to visit Kano Emirate during a thank-you visit in 2020 was in demonstration of the mutual respect and love that exists between the royal household of Benin and that of Kano.

According to him, the Benin royal family and the Kano royal family have had close ties and your historic royal visit to Benin City, will go a long way to further strengthen that family bond and friendship that already exist between us.

The royal father assured the Emir of Kano of the palace’s support and prayed God grant him a peaceful and successful reign over his people.

“We both share some similarities as managers of men, women and resources albeit from different professional and career perspectives. And now, by divine providence, we both occupy the historic traditional thrones of our kingdoms in service to our people, meeting their traditional and religious needs in prayers,” the Oba said.

“While we hope to build on the great legacies of our forefathers to further strengthen the bond of friendship and for the greater development and welfare of our people and our beloved country.

“Be assured of my support at all times when needed as much as I am sure I can enjoy your support during my reign,” he said.

Earlier, the Kano Emir referred to the Oba as his elder brother, saying that his visit was to promote the existing good relationship between the Kano Emirate and the Benin Kingdom for national cohesion.

“I will always be here for a reason, that is unity and for the coexistence of this country. My wish has always been goodwill to Edo people and for Nigeria at large.

“I pray peace and stability will be paramount here. And I pray, my big brother, the Oba of Benin, and my other brother, the governor, and all the rest of the leaders, will succeed in all their endeavours. I pray peace will continue to reign in Nigeria,” the Emir said.
