In continuation of its efforts to cut short the hike in food items and other consumables in the state, the Ekiti State Government, after series of meetings has reached a compromise with the Ekiti State Butchers Association to reduce the market price of meat.

The Senior Special Assistant on Mobilization, Tunji Ogunlola who led the government team assured that the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led government will continue to adopt every legal and malleable means to make Ekiti residents enjoy their stay wherever they reside in
the state.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the Chairman of the association, Sariyu Alabi announced a downward review in the price of a kilo of meat from N1, 600 to N1, 500.

Alabi, who attributed the hike in the price of meat to the high cost of transportation and lack of Cattle Market in Ekiti State, appealed to the government to ensure the establishment of a Cattle Market in the state and to assist their members with soft loans.

He thanked the government for initiating the meetings which he described as meaningful and fruitful, with the assurance that his members will not renege on the agreement reached with the government.

Prince Ogunlola, who spoke on behalf of the State Government, commended the leaders of the Butchers Association for not turning a deaf ear to the public cry, assured them that government will do everything within its power to assist the association.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant on Women Advocacy, Tola Ajayi Odoko called on the leadership of the association to reach out to their members across the 16 local government areas to adhere strictly to the agreement reached with the government.

Present at the meeting were the Special Assistant on Political Affairs (South), Ilesanmi Oguntuase, Ebenezer Olajuwon, Yemi Afolabi, and the state Consultant on Abattoirs and Cattle Market Development, Kayode Oluwayomi.
