Determined to take the business opportunity provided by the Nigerian Local Content Act, Elshcon Nigeria Limited, a marine services company said it has taken delivery of 3,800 gross tonnage ballast, and cargo barge.
The vessels, ‘ENL Triumph 2’ and an Anchor Handling Tug, ‘Nelson 2’, which weathered the worst tropical cyclone in the Indian Ocean on their way to Nigeria from Singapore, are expected to further put into practise, the tenets of Nigerian Content act in the area of offshore towage.
BusinessDay check reveals that the increasing deep water oil field development in both Nigeria and African countries has helped in deepening the relevance of towage marine services in the maritime, as well as oil and gas sectors.
Emi Membere–Otaji, managing director of Elshcon Nigeria Limited and Elshcon Offshore Limited, commended the Federal Government for vigorously pursuing Local Content policy, by engaging banks to fund new vessel acquisition so that Nigerian ship owners can compete effectively with their foreign peers.
He applauded Access Bank for partnering with the company in the acquisition of both vessels.
