Benjamin Uwajumogu, the senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, is dead.
Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State and senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, confirmed Uwajumogu’s death to reporters outside the Senate chambers on Wednesday.
According to Okorocha, the senator, who was elected on the platform of APC, slumped while taking his bath on Wednesday. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Sources close to his family said Uwajumogu was initially treated in the United Arab Emirates for a protracted illness but recently returned to Abuja after showing signs of recovery.

Reacting to his colleague’s death, Elisha Abbo (Adamawa), said the news of the senator’s came as a shock to the lawmakers.

“I can confirm that my colleague and brother Ben Uwajumogu has left us to be with the Lord. It calls for sober reflection,” Abbo said.

“It is a clear indication that this world is like market and when you come you will go back home. Ben has come to the market he has behaved well and gone back to account for his good deeds on earth. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” he said.

Until his death, the Imo senator served as the senate committee chairman on employment, labour and productivity.

A returning senator at the upper chamber, Uwajumogu was a former speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly.

He was born 52 years ago into the famous Uwajumogu family of Umuihi in Ihitte/Uboma LGA of Imo State.

His father was a very successful business merchant. The affluence of his father did not make him lose sight from the path of self-struggle.
