Tribunal: APC, Buhari fiercely oppose video evidence

Tribunal sacks House of Reps member in Ogun, orders rerun

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Presidential Monday at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, strongly resisted attempt by the petitioners challenging the election of Buhari,  Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 presidential election to tender video evidence.

The petitioners had wanted to present the video as exhibit to show how the poll was allegedly rigged in favour of Buhari, but the respondents fiercely opposed the move.

Also opposed to the tendering of the video evidence is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the 1st respondent in the petition.

Chris Uche (SAN),  Atiku and PDP’s lawyer had prayed the the tribunal to allow the petitioners to tender 48 video compact disc to show how the election was allegedly rigged state by state, but INEC counsel, Yunus Usman SAN, immediately stood to opposed the move to show the video in the court room.

Despite the tribunal plea for the objection be deferred till final address stage did not make the INEC lawyer to shift ground.

Also, President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer and that of the APC aligned themselves with the position of INEC that Atiku should not be allowed to tender and play the video before the tribunal.

They cited several authorities to justify their objections against the tendering of video compact disc.

After listening to submissions from parties the tribunal adjourned till after the break period to decide whether or not to allow the video be played and admitted as evidence.

Meanwhile, the tribunal has gone on break.
