WACCIMA urges exporters to patronize Delta Ports for economic growth

Port
The Warri Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (WACCIMA) on Thursday urged exporters in Warri and its environs to patronize the Delta Ports for seamless shipping of goods and services to boost the economic growth of the Niger Delta region.
President of WACCIMA, Mrs Patricia Idiakhoa, made this call during an export enlightenment workshop held in Warri and organized by WACCIMA in conjunction with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Delta Office.
She said shipping activities of non-oil export products will soon be carried out from the Warri port as the Escravos channel was being dredged to accommodate voyage in and out of Delta.
“It is to this effect that exporters are encouraged to patronize the Delta Ports for seamless shipping of good and services so as to further grow the economy of the region and Nigeria as a whole,” Mrs Idiakhoa said.
She said the export workshop was organized as part of WACCIMA’s quest to propagate its objective of providing business information to its members and the entire business community in the region.
“This event is aimed at sensitising the business community on export trade: exporters and potential exporters will have a better understanding of export trade, export procedures and documentation, NAFDAC registration procedures, pre-shipping inspections and others,” the WACIMMA President said.
Speaking to BusinessDay on the sideline, Mrs Idiakhoa also added that one of the reasons for the workshop was to correct the wrong impression that Delta ports were not working, stressing that people get the wrong impressive because of lack of information.
“Some people are exporting through Warri and Koko Ports. This is why we are here today to tell people that our ports are working.
“In terms of security, I can tell you that Delta port are safe for doing business. All you have to do as a business man is to come and join us and we will guide you and tell you how they can export their products through Delta ports,” Mrs Idiakhoa said.
Some of the resource persons who delivered papers at the workshop spoke on export procedures and documentation, NAFDAC registration procedures and exportation of regulated products and process and procedures for per shipment inspection in exports.
