Ambode seeks support for Sanwo-Olu
Outgoing governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has called for the extension of support to the governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who will be sworn in as governor of Lagos State on May 29.
Ambode made the demand while delivering his goodwill message to Muslims during the Ramadan special prayer at the Lagos State House, Ikeja, saying the unwavering support from Muslim faithful in the last four years contributed significantly to the successes recorded in the state.
Speaking further, the governor said by the prayers and collaborations of Muslims and other well meaning Lagosians, so much had been achieved by his administration and solid foundation to sustain further growth and development had been laid.
His words: “You supported me, a Christian governor; whatever I was able to achieve is by the foundation you had laid. Please extend same hands of fellowship to the incoming administration, as any achievement in Lagos is for the benefits of all Lagosians.”
While showing gratitude to God for favour and blessing that continue to put Lagos “in forefront of infrastructural growth and economic development,” Ambode said it was worth praising God, especially for sustaining Muslim faithful to witness another holy month of fasting.

“It is our prayer that we shall participate to the end, witness many more Ramadan and be enriched by the “teachings and spiritual fortifications of Ramadan,” he said.
The governor urged Moslems to rededicate themselves to the righteous ways and uphold the key pillar and lessons of Ramadan. He also advised all to reflect on their lives and think of how they “can be better persons, serve their families, community, society and nation.”
In his welcome address, Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef, the commissioner of home affairs, thanked Ambode for his commitment and unwavering identification with Islamic religious festivals and support for all initiatives in pursuant of peaceful coexistence and religious harmony in Lagos State.
He said that the 2019 Ramadan prayer was the fourth by Ambode’s administration.
“We Moslems are celebrating a true friend and supporter of Islam; we are celebrating a compassionate man, a promoter of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and religious harmony,” the commissioner said.
