UNIZIK Convocation: President Buhari to inaugurate 17 projects

President Mohammadu Buhari will inaugurate 17 newly completed projects at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, at the institution’s 2017/2018 convocation ceremonies on May 10.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Joseph Ahaneku, made the disclosure at a news conference to unveil activities lined up for the 13th convocation of the university on Monday in Awka.
He said the projects included the institution’s main gate (Beautiful Gate), Vice Chancellor Lodge and medical centre, among others, saying 790 students would be awarded masters degrees, 259 PhDs and several others would receive first degrees.
The vice Chancellor said that the convocation lecturer, the former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, would speak on the topic “National Integration, Peace and Development” and would be chaired by Attahiru Jega, former INEC chairman.
Ahaneku said three prominent Nigerians, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Emeka Offor and Babagana Kingibe would be honoured with honouring Doctorate Degrees for their contributions to human development.
According to him, seven serving and retired professors within and outside the university who had worked hard for the university would also be honoured to encourage the young ones.
They are Obioma Nwogu, Ilochi Okafor, Ikenna Onyido, Rose Ebenebe, Sam Omehie, C.K.Egboka, and I.C.K. Oyeka, all of them professors.
Ahaneku said research fair would be unveiled by the former executive secretary, National Universities Commission, Julius Okojie on May 7, which would be followed with presentation of prizes to the best graduating students.
