The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced the recall of all models of Rock ‘n’ Play Sleeper.
Babatunde Irukera, CEO, FCCPC, in a statement said following the recall made by the United States Consumer Protection Safety Commission on all models of Rock ‘n’ Play Sleeper, amounting aproximately 4.7 million products, the commission recognises the conceivable possibility that some of these products could have been imported into Nigeria.
He said, “The recall was as a result of fatalities which occurred “after infants rolled from their backs to their stomach or side while unrestrained in the product, or under other associated circumstances.
“Although the recall appears limited to the United States, the FCCPC, formerly CPC, recognises the conceivable possibility that some of these products could have been imported into Nigeria, either “in-trade,” or by individual purchasers/users. There is evidence that the product range have been offered for sale on popular online retail platforms in Nigeria.”
Babatunde in the statement explained that anyone who had purchased or currently using any of the products under this make and model was advised to immediately discontinue such use to avoid injury or fatality, adding that email should be sent to the FCCPC’s dedicated email address for further processing, including engagement with the manufacturer/retailer, and processing of a possible refund where applicable and practicable.
“The subject of the mail should be “Fisher-Price Sleeper 2019 Recall”. It should include the specific model, year of production and relevant contact information, such as name and telephone numbers. The mail should be sent to [email protected]“.
“All importers, distributors, retailers of the product are reminded of their obligations under Section 133 of the FCCPA, which requires notification and recall mechanism.”
